Torment review - spoilers clearly marked, and complete with pictures.

Okay well my eyesight's gone fantastically blurry and I have that headache I used to associate with reading a new Harry Potter on the release day all in the one go. So excuse any possible errors. See, this is why I was stuck with glasses.

Different book series though.

So I wake up this morning thinking it's an ordinary school holiday morning. The puppy's chewed something new up and we find the mess. In the cleaning aftermath and the start of business hours have sunk in, the phone rings. I answer it without really expecting anything.

(Hey, my eyesight's cleared a bit. YES.)

The phone's for me? This never really happens. Huh. Wait. Book City? Pre-order? Torment's arrived for me? Huh. Okay. Thank you. Bye.

(Mum's just given me tea in my Supernatural mug. YAY.)

Wait, today's Monday. Torment's meant to come out tomorrow.
A DAY EARLY?! That's effective service.

So after collecting of funds* and dressing appropriately**, I made to leave.

And then I see this.

She only wants to see the world.

After that little distraction and an incredibly exhausting journey of self discovery***, I pick up my pre-order.

After getting home and eating, I start.

Now, my room is hardly the best place for reading except in the afternoon, (when the sun shines into the window and I can actually see, this timed out perfectly) and even then I had to arrange my setting accordingly.****

I could've sat in the back or front yard, but the dogs would have bothered me in the former and I would've had random strangers stare if I'd chosen the latter.

So, there it was.

Torment.

****SPOILERS BEGIN HERE. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.****

Well, MILES! He just leapt out at me the most. I could tell what was going to happen there with regards to Luce. I mean SHEESH. What with Daniel holding her at arm's length and being left with practically nothing to satisfy her curiosity other than dangerous methods, I wouldn't blame her. Still, when she would push Miles away I found myself irritated by her. I mean, here's this perfectly great guy you're stringing along because you don't know what you want. It's getting almost Twilight-ish for me.
The school made a lot more sense in context rather than just reading the blurb. More information about those Announcers, which made little to no sense in Fallen, so that was such a relief to have explained. I had to comb through Fallen before this, trying to find something I'd missed - all those shadows following her and suddenly they're out of focus, whaaaat the heckkkkkkk. Torment definitely fills that awful gap better.

That battle at the end on the Price's front front lawn. Another RANDOM BATTLE, but I was kind of expecting an EPIC END BATTLE as I was thumbing through the last of Torment. Luce's exit was understanding, I would have done that myself, heck, I felt like doing that reading this.

Miles reflecting Luce! I caught on to that as soon as she saw it. "They say it's easy to do with the people you, like, love. . . He loved her."

Well DUH. It's the POWER OF LOVE. *Back to the Future air guitar solo*

****SPOILERS END HERE. ****

In short? BEST MONDAY EVER.
But I got no work done like I'd intended for today. GULP.

*Asking for an advance of money
**skinny jeans I'm wearing heaps lately, random tee and the usual chucks
***couple of blocks walk to the mall
****restrain that stupid curtain that was blocking my light

The Script.

Obsessive love songs.

And you know what I mean. Supposedly love songs, but are in reality, obsession songs! Sometimes if you're in the right mood and moment they're perfectly fine, but to somebody sane...

A list. With examples.
  • Shiver by Coldplay. (From the moment I wake to the moment I sleep, I'll be there by your side, just you try and stop me)
  • If It Kills Me by Jason Mraz (And I will find a way to you if it kills me, if it kills me)
  • Hanging By A Moment by Lifehouse (I'm standing here until you make me move ... big alarm bells if somebody dedicates this to you :P )
  • Every Breath You Take by The Police. Speaks for itself.
Have any others? Would love to see!

The Places Between review

So I bought this off iTunes. I love buying things off iTunes, just to see all the files in a list, ready to download. Remind me to printscreen it later. Deluxe edition, of course; different artwork from the other version. It also came with a bonus "disc" of fantastic B-sides as well as about 13 music videos! It was such a bargain for somebody like me; only familiar with a few songs from Doves and not willing to buy all four albums. This edition was just over the price of one, but (in my opinion) accurately covers 12 years of music from Doves.

And it's worth buying. They've really put heaps of thought in how to assemble this mix of tracks and each compliments the last well.

The B-sides are definitely worth the extra money.

Favourites?
  • BLACK AND WHITE TOWN.
  • Pounding
  • The Man Who Told Everything (they include a "Summer Version" in this. The only difference I can tell is a more elaborate violin or "orchestral" structure).
  • Caught By The River
  • Northenden
  • Darker - has actually been a favourite before this album, the first Doves track I ever heard.
  • Friday's Dust
  • At The Tower - an instrumental track.
  • Reprise - is it me, or is it just a more raw, instrumental, slower version of The Man Who Told Everything?
  • Almost Forgot Myself (Demo)
  • THE CEDAR ROOM. This track is AMAZING.
So if you're new to Doves, I recommend buying this. Saves a LOT of money and you get a brilliant overview of their last 12 years.

Secrets.

So, secrets.
We all have them.
And I mean EVERYBODY.
I have plenty. And they're fairly big. If you know them all, then you're earned them without trickery or you've properly earned my trust.

. . . and yes, I have trust issues. That's only a little secret of mine. You would have to know all my secrets to understand why, but before that, I have to trust you. Oy.

You have secrets too. I know you do. I know your secret.

. . . I hope I sucked you in, because I really don't know. XD . . . or do I? ;)

And if they're not secrets of your own, they're other people's secrets.
And secrets are still secrets unless the amount of people that know the secret exceeds three.

And the word secrets doesn't even look like a word any more.

Sometimes secrets are necessary.
You might be curious about mine, but trust me, it's necessary to shut up about them.
The secret could give somebody feet of clay and you just might be better off not knowing.

Sometimes secrets are annoying.
Like when you want to tell somebody one but you know you can't.
Or if you know someone's keeping something from you.

Sometimes secrets are surprising.
Like if you win an award without prior knowledge.
Or somebody's doing something nice for you.

Sometimes secrets are sad.
Like if you've lost somebody.
Or something awful's happened.

But whatever they are, secrets really depend on the situation.
And I've built my life on them.

Cake.

The last cooking before my folio is handed up.
Served it with the raspberry. The seal I had made was so powerful, the bottle itself had to be broken. Oops.

So there we go. After the music video and the cooking, no epic-ness left. :(

Well . . .

I only wanted to live in my fantasy world because reality rejected me.

And now I have no idea what to do next.

Camera caught you causing a commotion on the gurney again.

Camisado by Panic! At The Disco. The lyrics that inspired my blog description and which you can see in my AMAZING blog banner above ^ (which I still can't believe I made). Just listening to this song again reminds me of what I was and it makes me smile.

I am a huge fan of their debut album. Not so much of their second album; well it's okay, but not as good.

I was shown this AMAZINGLY AWESOME SITE today and it makes me want to go to Hogwarts all the more. I want a gift from this place.

*cough* MAHOGANY *cough*
*sneeze* or Ravenclaw tie *sniff*

Life is fine. Finally.
